Blair's Home Page

My name is Blair Dowling, and I'm a third-year at Georgia Tech . I'm double majoring in math and computer science, and minoring in economics.

For the six years prior to Tech, I was a home school student. See my page "You're Home Schooled? What do you do?" for a more indepth discussion of this. If you're home schooled, you might also want to check out The Path from Home Schooling to College.

My first major is mathematics, as it's something I've loved almost all my life. I've spent four of the last five summers either attending or working at a college program in math for highschool students. In 1997, I attended the Georgia Governor's Honors Program as a math major/computer minor. If you're homeschooled, and interested in GHP, please feel free to drop me a line, as I know how bad the red tape is, and who to talk to in order to apply (as far as I know, I was one of the first homeschooled students to ever attend GHP). For more information on GHP, go to my links. In the summers of 1998 and 1999, I attended the Program in Mathematics for Young Scientists at Boston University. In '98, as a first-year student, I studied number theory and modular forms, and in '99, I returned as a Junior Counselor and took classes in Combinatorics and Random Walks on Groups, along with working on a small group research project. PROMYS was a great experience, and one I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a serious math summer program. In fact, in the summer of 2001, I returned to the program as head counselor. Here at Tech, I'm involved in math (other than taking classes, of course) through Pi Mu Epsilon and the Putnam exam.

Computer science and economics are other particular interests, though generally secondary to math. In economics, my concentration is on econometrics and econometric forecasting. I would highly recommend Dr. Li's classes on these subjects if you're at all interested (though be forewarned, they aren't easy, and require a lot of math). I don't have a particular specialty in CS yet, though I'll have to pick one sometime before I graduate.

Outside of academics, much of my time is spent playing Ultimate Frisbee. I'm an avid player, and have certainly sustained more than my share of injuries playing the sport. For the past two years, I've been a member of the Georgia Tech Women's Ultimate team, ATARI 2600, and it's a great group of girls who have a lot of fun, play hard, and manage to pass classes all at the same time. I also captain a co-ed intramural team in the fall of each year for Westminister Christian Fellowship. The Ultimate Players Association has a webpage at http://www.upa.org if you're interested in the actual rules of the game, or finding a pick-up game near you.

Finally, a page of random links, and a few pictures, in case you're interested.
